About FISHMONGER Don

I am a person of the sea. Surfing and fishing California waters my entire life has forged my respect for ocean wildlife and strictly guides my decisions about what seafood is sensible to put on our plates. My environmental studies background from UC Santa Cruz, over a decade of experience, and passion for the sustainable seafood ensure:

  • Species I serve are bountiful and capable of replenishing

  • Catch methods used do not cause habitat destruction or produce bycatch (incidental capture and mortality of non-target marine animals during fishing)

  • Traceability of all offerings back to the vessel or producer. No guesswork on where or how each seafood was harvested.

  • The majority of the seafood I offer is caught directly in the Bay Area by local fishermen.

Working as a fishmonger at the Santa Cruz harbor, SF Pier 45, and Bay Area farmers markets ignited my passion for working with local, sustainable, and traceable ingredients. It is my mission to provide you with not only the finest and freshest ingredients, but with education along the way. The products I sell come from a diverse community of mostly local sustainable fisherman, farmers, and artisan food purveyors.
